How many of us were anti-TPP? Well look at these two articles… RT 1-23-17, “Trump signs executive order withdrawing US from TPP”, and WaPo, “Sanders, joined by Rust Belt Democrats, praises Trump for nixing TPP”

rt_cube_logo_150_43This is definitely big news for many people. As I understood it, things like TTP and TTIP and NAFTA were often viewed as “sell outs” to the multinational corporations. Things are already changing, baby!!

Trump signs executive order withdrawing US from TPP

” With a stroke of a pen, President Donald Trump has unraveled the Trans-Pacific Partnership, withdrawing the US from the controversial free-trade pact. Without Washington’s participation, the TPP would have to be renegotiated or scrapped altogether… It was championed by former President Barack Obama as a way to open Asian markets for American goods and create a trade bloc to counter China.

“Opposition to the TPP was one of the key planks of Trump’s presidential campaign, with the billionaire businessman calling the trade pact a “potential disaster” for the US. He said he would prefer bilateral trade deals with individual TPP countries instead. Monday’s executive order signaled the new administration’s determination to address its priorities quickly.

“Trump’s animosity for the TPP was shared by some of the Democrats, led by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders. His rival in the November 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton, initially supported the trade pact.

“We Are Dissidents, but we don’t have a problem with everything Trump does. His withdrawing U.S. from Trans-Pacific Partnership is good. — A.B. (@PoliticalAnt) 1-23-17

Sanders, joined by Rust Belt Democrats, praises Trump for nixing TPP

“Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt), who campaigned hard against the Trans-Pacific Partnership in last year’s Democratic presidential primaries, praised President Trump for an executive order to officially pull the United States out of the deal.

““I am glad the Trans-Pacific Partnership is dead and gone,” Sanders said. “For the last 30 years, we have had a series of trade deals — including the North American Free Trade Agreement, permanent normal trade relations with China and others — which have cost us millions of decent-paying jobs and caused a ‘race to the bottom’ which has lowered wages for American workers. Now is the time to develop a new trade policy that helps working families, not just multinational corporations. If President Trump is serious about a new policy to help American workers, then I would be delighted to work with him.”

“Most Democrats in Congress opposed the TPP, putting them at odds with the Obama administration. During the campaign, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton came out against the TPP after praising the negotiations that had resulted in it.”
